Springtime In and After Quarantine.

It was springtime, and I was in quarantine. All I wanted to be was outdoors. My first year full-time teaching had become something school did not prepare me for. I have been working with students with special needs, teaching art! What a joy to watch 5-10-year-olds discover new skills and ideas in art. As I finally started getting my footing in teaching the world shut down, and I was at square 1. I remembered a professor saying to me not to lose my practice in art as I make the career choice to be an art teacher. This made me decide to go back into my own art-making practice. My parents were tired of seeing unicorn skulls and asked me if I had anything else I would like to create. I thought about it. Tired of being indoors. Missing the colors NYC had to offer as you roamed through the streets. Not missing the city smells, I decided to draw flowers. Using stencils I had collected during my undergrad printmaking and aqueous media classes, I started creating. Googleing different flowers, playing with watercolors, and markers. I created flower art. The goal create 100 flowers. From 2020-2025, I was able to create 101 flower drawings. As I created, I saw myself relaxing and getting into a meditative headspace. Juxtaposing nature with human-made patterns and ideas, I played with ideas of textile, stained glass, and graffiti. I noticed that this is a series that can continue on. Though I have reached the goal, I do see myself adding and exploring new ideas. This will be a living series.
